Howdy.

I’m Aldrin Calimlim, and right now I’m hungry. I see you’ve noticed how silly my last name sounds. I know. But it’s hard not to accept something for what it’s worth when you’ve had it for more than two decades. My first name, on the other hand, I’ve liked since forever. It tends to be problematic though every time I order at a coffee shop—three guesses which—and the baristas would holler, “Venti Caramel Frappuccino Blended Coffee for ALVIN!” Either they’re practically deaf or they just find it difficult to process consonant blends inside six-letter names. Beats me. I just let them go away with it though. It’s far more convenient than telling them it’s Aldrin, meaning old friend, or it’s Aldrin, as in the last name of the second man who set foot on the moon in July 1969, every time.

More than anything, I’m a proud Louisian. That’s the fancy name for a student or alumnus of Saint Louis University, Baguio City. Whilst I was there I worked on securing a degree in Electronics Engineering (formerly called Electronics and Communications Engineering). Now I’m working my arse off in the field, a.k.a. the office, striving to become a functional member of the Filipino labor force while sticking to the unspoken Louisian manifesto: Be yourself, and pay your bills. With hindsight though, I should have at least applied for UP. So much for being a proud Louisian.

About my inclinations— I love books; I’m a Harry Potter/J.K. Rowling fan, obviously. I’m a glutton for movies; I think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Y Tu Mama Tambien are two of the best screenplays ever written. I’m wired to my iPod; no better lyricist in my mind than Chris Carrabba. I reside on the Web; Tumblr is my home. TV is good; Lost, anyone? I worship my iPhone; I’m Charlie wishing for a golden ticket to Cupertino.
